Assam CM issuing fabricated statements to hide his corruption: Gaurav Gogoi

Assam Congress Chief Fires Back at CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s Pakistan Link Allegations

In a heated exchange, Assam Congress president and Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi hit out at Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over claims linking him to Pakistan. This comes right after the submission of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) report on alleged anti-India activities.

Gogoi didn’t hold back while speaking to reporters in Guwahati. He accused the Chief Minister of spreading false stories to cover up massive corruption in his government. "Himanta Biswa Sarma keeps making up lies from his CM chair just to boost his personal wealth," Gogoi said. "But the people of Assam aren’t fooled—they see right through these tricks."

The Congress leader went further, predicting trouble for Sarma in the upcoming Assam Assembly elections. He claimed public anger against the BJP is boiling over, and voters are ready to boot them out. "The next government will focus on helping the poor and jobless, not just filling one family’s pockets like Sarma’s been doing," Gogoi added. He also highlighted how BJP leaders and civil society intellectuals are jumping ship to join Congress, fed up with the corruption under Sarma’s rule.

This row kicked off earlier when CM Himanta Biswa Sarma shared updates on the SIT probe. The team, formed by the Assam Cabinet on February 17 this year, looked into the activities of Pakistani national Ali Tauqeer Sheikh and his network. Sarma called the findings "shocking," saying they point to a bigger plot against India’s security.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Chief Minister revealed that the SIT uncovered links to a British national married to an Indian MP. He even alleged that Pakistan’s Ministry of Interior helped arrange a visit to the country by a sitting Assam MP. "This involvement of Pakistan’s officials is deeply worrying," Sarma stated, stressing it’s a threat to India’s sovereignty.

Sarma assured that the Assam government will review the full SIT report before taking it to the state Cabinet. Once discussed, they’ll share the key details with the public.

The clash between Gogoi and Sarma highlights the growing political tension in Assam ahead of elections, with accusations flying on both sides over corruption, security, and governance.
