Piyush Goyal conveys PM Modi’s wishes to Netanyahu, highlights progress in trade dialogue

New Delhi – Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal concluded a three‑day visit to Israel by meeting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday. In a post on X, the Union Minister wrote, “Honoured to call on the Prime Minister of Israel, H.E. @Netanyahu, at the conclusion of my three‑day visit,” and added, “Conveyed to him the warm wishes of Prime Minister @NarendraModi ji.”

He briefed Mr Netanyahu on several key outcomes: his discussions with Israel’s Economy Minister Nir Barkat, the successful India‑Israel Business and CEOs forums that drew more than 60 Indian delegates, and the signing of the Terms of Reference that formally launches negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement aimed at boosting trade, investment and technology collaboration.

Goyal also highlighted plans to accelerate cooperation in technology and talent, noting that combining Israel’s hi‑tech strengths with India’s scale could deepen their innovation partnership. He indicated that the two sides will continue to push for a stronger economic and strategic relationship across agriculture, water, defence, science, technology and innovation.

Earlier comments by the Minister stressed that the proposed FTA will unfold in two phases, which should raise bilateral trade and improve collaboration in research and development. He described the visit as a significant success after 20 years as Commerce Minister, expressing optimism that trade and investment between India and Israel will rise sharply in the coming years. Both countries are keen to wrap up the first phase of the FTA quickly so that the business community can benefit sooner.
