PM Modi Boosts Assam’s Development with Major Project Launches
Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off his two-day visit to Assam with a bang, unveiling groundbreaking projects that promise to transform the state’s infrastructure and economy. On Sunday, he inaugurated India’s first 2nd-generation bioethanol plant at Numaligarh Refinery in Golaghat district. This eco-friendly facility, powered by bamboo feedstock, comes at a whopping cost of Rs 5,000 crore and marks a big step toward sustainable energy in the Northeast.
Modi didn’t stop there. He laid the foundation stone for a massive Polypropylene Plant worth Rs 7,230 crore at the same refinery. Later, he addressed a huge public rally in Numaligarh, sharing his vision for a developed India.
Earlier that day, in Darrang district, the Prime Minister launched development projects totaling Rs 6,500 crore. Speaking to an enthusiastic crowd, Modi highlighted how his "double-engine government"—a nod to the strong central and state partnership—is turning Assam into a powerhouse for connectivity and top-notch healthcare. "These initiatives show our full commitment to this goal," he said, emphasizing the role of young people in building Viksit Bharat, or a developed India.
"Our Northeast has a huge part to play in this dream," Modi added. "The next chapter of the 21st century belongs to the East and the Northeast." He stressed the government’s push for better roads, railways, airports, and digital links like 5G and broadband, which are already changing lives and sparking business growth in the region.
Among the key projects in Darrang, Modi laid the foundation for the Darrang Medical College and Hospital, a General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) School, and a B.Sc. Nursing College. These will strengthen healthcare access for locals. He also greenlit the Guwahati Ring Road Project to ease traffic jams and boost urban mobility around the capital. Plus, the Kuruwa-Narengi Bridge over the Brahmaputra River got its foundation stone, set to connect communities and drive socio-economic progress.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma joined the event and gifted Modi a memento to honor Krishak Swahid Diwas, remembering the tragic 1894 farmers’ massacre in Darrang.
With these moves, PM Modi’s Assam visit underscores a bright future for the Northeast, blending green energy, healthcare, and connectivity to fuel India’s growth story.
