IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal says Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s passion for cricket keeps boosting the sport in India. He shared these thoughts after India’s exciting five-wicket victory over Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 final.
PM Modi jumped on social media to celebrate the win, posting on X: “#OperationSindoor on the games field. Outcome is the same – India wins! Congrats to our cricketers.” The message highlighted the team’s triumph and Modi’s support for the Men in Blue.
Talking to , Dhumal explained how such high-level cheers make a big difference. “Cricket is a massive part of our culture, connecting with every Indian,” he said. “The Prime Minister’s tweet is a huge boost for the players. It fires them up to do even better. The Indian team must feel thrilled that the world’s most popular leader tuned in and sent his congrats.”
India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav echoed the excitement, noting it feels great when the nation’s top leader “bats on the front foot” like that.
Dhumal praised this vibe, calling it true leadership that inspires everyone. “When leaders set such a strong example on the global stage, it rubs off on our citizens and our cricket team, including the captain,” he added. “The way the Indian cricket team stepped up, tackled every challenge, and shone under pressure was outstanding. Big congrats to them all.”
He also spotlighted Suryakumar’s smart captaincy and Tilak Varma’s match-winning unbeaten 59. “The team stayed cool in a nail-biter final,” Dhumal said. “They showed real patience and grit. Tilak’s innings was pure class, and those key partnerships in the middle overs sealed it. Our bowlers and batters delivered a top-notch all-round show.”
