Madhya Pradesh: Two killed, thirteen injured as truck plows into crowd

Tragic Truck Crash in Indore Kills Two, Injures 13 in Fiery Chaos

A horrific truck accident shook Indore late Monday night, claiming two lives and leaving 13 people injured. The speeding truck lost control on Aerodrome Road, crashed through a crowd of pedestrians near Bada Ganpati Square, smashed into several vehicles, and burst into flames. This devastating Indore road accident has left the city reeling, sparking urgent calls for better traffic safety.

Eyewitnesses shared terrifying details of the chaos. The truck barreled through the busy square, dragging a motorcycle under its wheels before catching fire. Flames quickly spread to the front of the vehicle, filling the night sky with thick smoke and sending bystanders running in panic. Pedestrians, motorists, and even passengers in e-rickshaws bore the brunt of the crash, with victims including locals out for the evening.

Emergency teams sprang into action right away. Firefighters battled the blaze, while ambulances rushed the injured to nearby hospitals. Police officials report that at least three victims remain in serious condition, though three or four others with minor injuries should head home soon.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed his grief on X (formerly Twitter). "This tragic truck accident in Indore has deeply saddened me," he wrote. He ordered an immediate site inspection by the Additional Chief Secretary (Home) and launched a probe into how heavy vehicles like this truck entered the city before 11 pm. "My heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, and I pray for the quick recovery of the injured," he added, stressing the need for accountability and preventive steps.

Urban Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya skipped a planned trip to Dhar district to rush to Indore. He visited hospitals, met the injured, and checked on their care. "The reports of this road accident at Shikshak Nagar on Airport Road hit me hard," he posted on X, sharing photos. "I’ve instructed the district administration to act fast. We’re with the affected families, and all medical support is in place."

Police Commissioner Santosh Kumar Singh visited a hospital and confirmed the details. Additional Police Commissioner Amit Singh revealed that authorities arrested the truck driver, who was under the influence of alcohol. "He wasn’t even able to speak properly," Singh said. The driver now faces a medical test, and police have filed a case under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita (the new criminal code replacing the Indian Penal Code). Investigations continue to uncover how the crash happened.

This Indore truck accident has reignited worries about heavy vehicles entering crowded urban spots during busy hours. Locals and officials alike demand stricter rules to prevent such deadly road mishaps. As the city mourns, authorities promise swift action to ensure safer streets for everyone.
