Nick Reiner ‘stormed off’ after getting into tiff with comedian Bill Hader at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party
Rob Reiner’s son Nick, who had long struggled with personal issues, allegedly caused an awkward scene at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party after clashing with comedian Bill Hader — an exchange that reportedly unsettled several guests.
According to an eyewitness who spoke with NBC News, Nick cut into a conversation Hader was having during the festive gathering. When the former “SNL” star told him he was already in a private discussion, Nick reportedly froze, stared silently for a moment, and then walked away, “storming off.”
Those who witnessed the moment described it as disturbing, with the tension noticeable enough to worry others at the party.
Nick arrived at the high-profile event alongside his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner. Sources later claimed that the family was involved in a “very loud argument” at the party, possibly tied to concerns that Nick had relapsed into drug use and was resisting another attempt at treatment.
Now 32, Nick has spoken openly in past interviews about his struggles with heroin and cocaine, estimating that he entered rehab at least 18 times after first seeking help at age 15.
“They had had an argument at Conan’s holiday party, and Rob had been telling people that they’re scared for Nick and scared that his mental state was deteriorating,” said a longtime family friend who lived close to the Reiner residence.
Police arrived at the family’s Brentwood home around 3:40 p.m. Sunday, by which time Rob and Michele were believed to have been dead for several hours, according to TMZ.
Investigators reportedly discovered both victims with their throats cut in what the outlet described as a horrific scene, suggesting the acts of a “mad man.”
The couple’s bodies were found by their 28-year-old daughter, Romy, who told authorities that Nick “should be a suspect” and warned that he was “dangerous,” sources said.
As of Tuesday, Nick remained in custody on suspicion of killing his parents and was awaiting medical clearance before making a court appearance.
