Cricket fans, get ready for some exciting news! The third Women’s One Day International (ODI) between Australia and India has shifted venues. Originally set for Junction Oval in Melbourne, the match will now take place at Bellerive Oval in Hobart on Sunday, March 1, 2026.
This change comes after Cricket Australia (CA) learned from Cricket Victoria (CV) that Junction Oval couldn’t host the day-night clash. The main issue? Delays in installing new lights at the venue mean they won’t be ready in time. Plus, the ongoing work would block off parts of the ground, making it tough for fans to enjoy the game.
CA also ruled out playing it as a daytime fixture. With a packed schedule, including another day-night match in Hobart on Friday, February 27, 2026, the timing just didn’t work. And the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is out too, thanks to major renovation projects happening there.
Peter Roach, CA’s Head of Cricket Operations and Scheduling, shared his thoughts on the shift. “We’re bummed about moving this match from Junction Oval and missing out on a women’s international game in Melbourne this season,” he said. “We expected the lights to be up weeks ago and were pumped for the first night game there. Sadly, the MCG’s renovations and other logistics forced our hand.”
He added, “Big thanks to Cricket Tasmania for stepping up to host a second match in Hobart. We hope local fans make the most of it and cheer on our world champion women’s team. Sorry to ticket holders – refunds will hit your accounts automatically within 24 hours. Can’t wait for a thrilling series against India, and women’s cricket back in Melbourne next season!”
For those planning to catch the action, here’s the updated Hobart schedule:
- Australia vs India, ODI (Day/Night): Friday, February 27, 2026
- Australia vs India, ODI (Day/Night) – Relocated third match: Sunday, March 1, 2026
This move keeps the Australia women’s cricket team and India women’s cricket team series on track, ensuring fans in Tasmania get double the fun. Stay tuned for more updates on this high-stakes women’s ODI series!
