In Purnea, Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar gave a big welcome to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday. He praised the central government’s strong support for Bihar’s growth and development projects.
During his speech to the crowd, Kumar highlighted the state’s big push for jobs. “We plan to create one crore jobs for the youth in the next five years,” he announced. He added, “I thank PM Modi once again. He’s doing so much for the whole country and especially for Bihar. Our state government is working hard, but now we have his full support too. Special help is coming in to set up new industries here—everything is moving forward.”
Earlier in the day, PM Modi inaugurated the new Interim Terminal Building at Purnea Airport’s Civil Enclave. Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, Bihar Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, and Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Kumar Sinha and Samrat Choudhary joined the event.
Modi also kicked off several development projects worth around Rs 36,000 crore in Purnea by laying foundation stones and inaugurating key initiatives. These projects aim to boost infrastructure, jobs, and local economy in Bihar.
A major highlight was the launch of the National Makhana Board in Bihar. This board will help Makhana farmers by promoting better production, new technologies, improved post-harvest handling, value addition, processing, and easier access to markets, exports, and branding. Bihar produces about 90% of India’s Makhana, with key districts like Madhubani, Darbhanga, Sitamarhi, Saharsa, Katihar, Purnea, Supaul, Kishanganj, and Araria leading the way. Their ideal climate and fertile soil make the crop top-quality.
The new Makhana Board will supercharge Makhana production in Bihar and across India, putting the state on the global map for this superfood. Farmers stand to gain big from these efforts.
