Manisha Koirala marks grandfather B.P. Koirala’s birth anniversary with powerful message on democracy
Bollywood star Manisha Koirala recently shared a heartfelt tribute to her grandfather, B.P. Koirala, on his birth anniversary. The actress posted on Instagram to honor Nepal’s first elected Prime Minister, celebrating his legacy as a writer and democracy champion.
Manisha shared a rare black-and-white photo of B.P. Koirala and wrote a touching caption: “Remembering B.P. BA on his birthday — Nepal’s first elected Prime Minister and a writer who gave voice to love, conflict, and resilience. Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala, popularly known as B.P. Koirala, was a key figure in Nepal’s history. He led the country as Prime Minister from 1959 to 1960 and headed the Nepali Congress, a major social democratic party. As a revolutionary and writer, he fought for freedom and inspired many. He was Manisha Koirala’s grandfather and also related to Bollywood actor Siddharth Koirala. Plus, he was the elder brother of former Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala and the younger brother of another ex-PM, Matrika Prasad Koirala.
Sadly, B.P. Koirala passed away in 1982 in Kathmandu due to oropharyngeal cancer. He had just returned from treatment in the United States before his death.
On the work front, Manisha Koirala shone in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s hit web series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. She played the powerful role of Mallikajaan in this Netflix show, set in Lahore’s Heera Mandi during India’s freedom struggle. The series dives into the world of tawaifs, blending their personal stories with the fight against British rule.
Heeramandi also stars big names like Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Sharmin Segal, and Taha Shah Badussha. Fans loved Manisha’s performance, making it one of her standout roles recently.
