BJP spokesperson Rohan Gupta has hailed the Modi government’s latest move, GST Bachat Utsav, as a smart way to help everyday consumers save money. Speaking on Tuesday, Gupta praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for turning plans into real action, especially with this initiative that passes on lower GST rates directly to shoppers.
The buzz around GST Bachat Utsav kicked off after Modi shared an open letter to the nation, spotlighting how reduced GST taxes will cut costs for essential goods. In an interview, Gupta said the timing couldn’t be better for upcoming festivals. “This gives people a real reason to celebrate Navratri and Diwali,” he noted. “The government doesn’t just talk about schemes—it makes sure they hit the ground running. Thanks to streamlined GST rules, prices for daily essentials have dropped by 10 to 25 percent.”
Gupta emphasized that the benefits go further than just tax cuts. “The Modi government is making sure manufacturers and sellers actually lower their prices, so families feel the economic relief right away,” he added. He described the administration as a “sympathetic government” focused on ordinary citizens, pointing to steps like raising the tax-free income limit to Rs 12 lakh and boosting “Swadeshi” or homegrown products through initiatives like this.
Taking a swipe at the opposition, Gupta called out those who once slammed GST but now want to claim credit. He specifically fired back at Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee, who recently suggested the GST rate reductions stem from BJP’s poor showing in the 2024 elections. Banerjee had mocked the cuts as politically driven, saying BJP lost 60 seats in the Lok Sabha—from 303 to 240—and that even lower rates might follow if losses worsened. He quipped about a “GST Loot Utsav” over the past eight years, tying it to Modi’s address on the GST 2.0 rollout.
Gupta dismissed the claims, saying, “Everyone can see what’s going on in Bengal. GST benefits aren’t reaching people there because of Trinamool Congress’s blocking tactics. Their arrogance is holding Bengal back. Only with a double-engine government can the state catch up to the rest of India.” As debates heat up over GST reforms and consumer savings, this initiative highlights the ongoing push for affordable essentials amid festival season.
