Trump again threatens Venezuela land strikes — and says Colombia also at risk

President Trump has once again warned that he could launch ground attacks on drug traffickers, extending his threat beyond the seas to include operations on land. He also flagged Colombian operators as potential targets. Over the past several months, he has repeatedly threatened to strike at alleged drug “mills” used for fentanyl or cocaine, building on his earlier campaign that bombed suspicious vessels in international waters. When a journalist pressed him for details, Trump said he would act “if we think they’re building mills for whether it’s fentanyl or cocaine.” He then pivoted to Colombia, saying, “I hear Colombia, the country of Colombia, is making cocaine. They have cocaine manufacturing plants, and then they sell us the cocaine.” He added, “Anybody that’s doing that and selling it into our country is subject to attack. No, not just Venezuela.”

On Oct. 23, Trump revealed that he was preparing to brief Congress on his plan for land attacks inside Venezuela, but has postponed action as he works to pressure long‑time leader Nicolas Maduro to resign and leave the country.
