PM Modi to inaugurate redeveloped Tripura Sundari temple on Sep 22: CM Saha

PM Modi to Visit Tripura: Inaugurates Redeveloped Tripura Sundari Temple
In a big boost for Tripura’s tourism and culture, Chief Minister Manik Saha shared exciting news on Sunday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the state on September 22 to inaugurate the stunningly redeveloped Tripura Sundari Temple. This ancient Hindu shrine, one of the revered 51 Shakti Peethas, sits in Udaipur, about 65 km south of Agartala.
Saha made the announcement while wrapping up the vibrant Neermahal Jal Utsav in Melaghar, Sepahijala district. The three-day water festival draws crowds from across Tripura and beyond, celebrating the iconic Neermahal—literally meaning "water palace." This fairy-tale-like royal mansion floats in the middle of Rudrasagar Lake, 53 km south of Agartala. Built in 1930 by Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya as his summer retreat, it blends Mughal architecture with local flair. "You won’t find another gem like Neermahal in all of eastern India," Saha proudly declared.
The Chief Minister, who also oversees Information and Culture, urged everyone to spread the word about Neermahal on social media. "Many people still don’t know about this cultural treasure. Promoting it will bring more visitors and boost our local economy," he said. The BJP government is pushing hard to develop tourist spots statewide, and under the Swadesh Darshan scheme from the Union Tourism Ministry, they plan to revamp Neermahal’s Raj Ghat too.
Back to the temple highlight: PM Modi won’t just cut the ribbon—he’ll also offer prayers at the 524-year-old Tripura Sundari Temple. Saha had personally invited him earlier. The redevelopment, part of the central government’s PRASHAD scheme, cost over Rs 52 crore, with Tripura chipping in Rs 7 crore. It’s all about rejuvenating pilgrimage sites and spiritual heritage.
In another cool project, the state is building replicas of all 51 Shakti Peethas at the upcoming 51-Shakti Peethas Park in Gomati district’s Banduar. This Rs 97 crore initiative will make it a must-visit for devotees and tourists alike.
Saha praised PM Modi’s efforts to preserve India’s rich traditions. He highlighted Tripura’s strong growth, ranking second in the Northeast for per capita income and GDP. "We’re focusing on rural development to build Ek Tripura, Shrestha Tripura— one Tripura, the best Tripura. Let’s unite for it," he added.
The event saw attendance from Higher Education Minister Kishor Barman, Sepahijala Zila Parishad chief Supriya Das Datta, MLA Taffazal Hossain, District Magistrate Sidharth Shiv Jaiswal, SP Bijoy Debbarma, and more.
This visit promises to spotlight Tripura’s heritage, from sacred temples to majestic palaces, drawing global attention to the Northeast’s hidden gems.
