Gujarat Deputy CM inaugurates modern civil court building in Tapi

Ahmedabad – 9 November – Gujarat’s Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi opened a new, modern Civil Court building in Uchhal, Tapi district, on Sunday. The Rs 7‑crore facility is designed to bring justice closer to the people and make court visits easier for residents of the border area between Gujarat and Maharashtra.

“It’s a historic moment for the region, where even a train platform shows sights of both states,” Sanghavi told the crowd. He praised the local judiciary for upholding law and order in a place that faces unique administrative challenges and highlighted the court’s role in serving tribal and border communities. The building boasts modern amenities for lawyers, women and witnesses, aiming to keep everyone safe and comfortable.

Sanghavi also stressed that the government and the courts are working together to boost transparency and efficiency with digital tools. Gujarat is already a front‑runner in judicial reform, being the first state to livestream High Court hearings on YouTube. He echoed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for simpler court processes, saying, “Justice should be straightforward, but complicated steps make it hard. We must simplify them together.”

The Gujarat High Court’s Chief Justice, D.M. Vyas, welcomed the new court as a beacon of fair, fast, and transparent justice for remote areas, while Principal District Judge Tejas Desai added that the centre will strengthen impartiality in Uchhal.

During the ceremony, Sanghavi also recognised the Vyara police team for solving a jewellery theft case within 48 hours and returning the stolen items to the family. Attendees included Tapi District Panchayat President Jalim Singh Vasava, former President Surajbhai Vasava, District Police Chief Jashu Desai, judges, bar members, administrators and local citizens.
