Bhubaneswar – Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Wednesday that some “vested interest” groups are trying to hurt Odisha’s reputation for peace. He made the remarks during a high‑level meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan, where he reviewed the state’s law‑and‑order situation.
Majhi told police leaders to stay sharp. He asked senior officers to keep a close eye on troublemakers and suspicious people across all parts of the state. The CM also urged the police to keep patrolling and to stay alert, even though things in Cuttack have calmed down.
In Cuttack, the curfew was lifted after days of unrest, and the internet service that had been cut during the riots is now back on. Still, CM Majhi warned police not to relax and to keep watching over the city, calling it the “City of Brotherhood.” He asked officers to keep talking with community leaders to keep the peace stable.
The CM also expressed sadness over the brutal killing of lawyer and social worker Pitabas Panda in Berhampur. He ordered police to arrest those responsible quickly and to make sure the culprits face appropriate punishment.
The meeting drew top officials, including Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Satyabrata Sahu, Police Director General Y. B. Khurania, and the CM’s advisor Prakash Mishra, among others.
The Chief Minister’s words come as Odisha deals with recent communal tension in Cuttack and the murder of a BJP leader in Berhampur. He stresses that the state remains committed to maintaining peace, law and order, and harmony among its diverse communities.
