South Korea’s Defence Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) and Brazil’s defence ministry just inked a new partnership to grow military ties and boost joint tech projects. At a signing ceremony in Seoul on Wednesday, South Korean minister Seok Jong‑gun and Brazil’s defence secretary Heraldo Luiz Rodrigues pledged to deepen collaboration in research, development and procurement of defence equipment.
The memorandum of understanding (MOU) outlines shared work across ground, sea, aerospace and satellite sectors. Both sides will exchange expertise, open up new research labs, and expand personnel exchanges. “We want to learn from each other and build stronger defence industries,” said Seok.
Brazil, the first Latin American country to set up diplomatic relations with South Korea in 1959, is a major economic and military partner. The country houses leading aerospace producer Embraer, one of the world’s top aircraft builders.
Just a day earlier, DAPA finalized a separate MOU with Embraer during the Seoul International Aerospace & Defence Exhibition 2025 at KINTEX. The agreement will let South Korean parts suppliers join Embraer’s global supply chain and explore opportunities for Embraer to participate in Korean defence projects.
Embraer has delivered over 9,000 aircraft worldwide and recently broadened its military fleet with the C‑390 Millennium transport plane. With these new deals, South Korea and Brazil aim to strengthen defence cooperation and keep pace with global technology trends.
