Delhi Police nabbed a 19-year-old man after a video of him firing shots from an illegal gun went viral on social media. Officers seized a homemade pistol, one live bullet, and two spent cartridges from his possession during the arrest on Friday night.
The suspect, identified as Jamaal from Subhash Mohalla in Bhajanpura, Delhi, got caught thanks to a tip-off. A team from the Anti-Auto Theft Squad, led by Inspector Yogesh Vashishta, set up a trap based on that intel and grabbed him quickly.
It all started when police spotted the incriminating video while scanning social media. They tracked down Jamaal and searched him on the spot. Now, they’ve filed charges under Section 25 of the Arms Act at the Bhajanpura police station, with more investigation in the works to uncover any bigger connections.
In a separate bust, Delhi Police uncovered a whopping 3,580 kilograms of banned firecrackers stashed in a home in West Delhi’s Rajouri Garden. A family— a man, his wife, and their son— was using the place as a secret warehouse and got busted red-handed while repackaging the explosives for sale.
The fireworks came from suppliers in Meerut, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad, aimed at cashing in during the upcoming festival season despite the Supreme Court ban on firecrackers in Delhi. Police ramped up checks after getting solid tips early Thursday morning, raiding the spot to stop the illegal trade before Diwali hits.
These crackdowns highlight Delhi Police’s push to tackle illegal weapons and fireworks amid rising concerns over safety and pollution in the city.
