Manipur BJP MLAs head to Delhi for meeting with central leadership

Imphal, Dec 13 (LatestNewsX) – On Saturday, at least twelve BJP members of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, including former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and state speaker Thokchom Satyabrata Singh, travelled to New Delhi for a meeting hosted by the party’s central leadership on Sunday.

Sources from Imphal suggest that the key agenda items will revolve around the formation of a new state government. With mounting talk of a fresh administration and a surge in pressure from BJP legislators and senior figures to lead the upcoming government, the Sunday gathering is seen as a pivotal political moment.

Singh, who confirmed the trip at a press briefing, reiterated that the national leadership had directed all BJP MLAs from Manipur to attend. While the specific details of the meeting remain undisclosed, he indicated that discussions are likely to focus on how to bring a new government to power.

“BJP MLAs have been summoned to Delhi to assess the situation in Manipur. We have not received an exact agenda for the meeting, but it could involve government formation,” he told reporters before heading to the capital.

He expressed optimism that the outcomes of Sunday’s talks would pave the way for a more favorable future for Manipur. Rajkumar Imo Singh, son‑in‑law of former Chief Minister and MLA, said that he and other state officials were also called in by central party leaders for the meeting.

“We’ll see what comes out of the meeting. We don’t have many details yet,” he added.

The BJP holds 37 seats in the 60‑member Manipur assembly. The state, which has been under President’s Rule since 13 February after N. Biren Singh stepped down, is currently in suspended animation and its tenure is set to run until 2027.

Earlier this year, senior BJP officials – National General Secretary (Organisation) B. L. Santhosh and Northeast coordinator Sambit Patra – toured the state for three days, meeting with party leaders and MLAs, which spurred speculation about a possible new government.

In October, 26 BJP legislators, including Singh, met Santhosh and Patra in New Delhi to request “the installation of a popular government” in Manipur and signaled their readiness to collaborate as a united front.

Singh recently reiterated that all BJP legislators in Manipur remain committed to forming a popular government, noting that the process of government formation is already underway while not commenting on individual perspectives.
