Jaipur – Rajasthan’s top police officer, Director General Rajeev Sharma, warned that fake news is a growing weapon in today’s digital wars. The warning came after the state police hosted a full‑day workshop for journalists and social‑media influencers at the Nalanda Auditorium of the Rajasthan Police Academy.
The event, which brought together media staff, influencers, and senior police officials, aimed to teach how to spot and stop misleading content. A team of ten experts from Indian School of Business, led by Professor Manish Gangwar and Major Vineet Kumar, ran hands‑on sessions on using artificial intelligence (AI) to detect deep fakes and other manipulative media.
Sharma said the speed at which false stories spread can upset law and order, create mental distress, and even fuel financial scams. “India has more than nine million internet users, and about one‑third of them are active on social media,” he told the crowd. “The 18‑to‑24‑year‑olds are the most at risk, so we must raise their awareness.”
He urged reporters to fact‑check breaking news before going live, warning that unverified stories can cause immense damage. The DGP also encouraged journalists to use technology and partner with law‑enforcement when uncertain. “Only truth should reach the public – we all share that responsibility,” he said.
Key police figures in attendance included DG Cyber Crime and Law & Order Sanjay Agarwal, the Rajasthan Police Academy Director Sanjib Narzari, Additional DGPs VK Singh and Ajay Pal Lamba, Inspector General Ajay Pal Lamba, DIG Kunwar Rashtradeep, and SPs Rashi Dogra and Shantanu Singh. Many police officers took part in the training, strengthening the link between the police and media.
The workshop highlighted how AI tools can turn the tide against misinformation. Police and journalists face the challenge together – to fight fake news, support safe online spaces, and keep Delhi’s growing digital audience informed with the real facts.
