PM Modi to Inaugurate Redeveloped Tripura Sundari Temple on September 22

Exciting news for devotees and history lovers! Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Tripura on September 22 to inaugurate the stunningly redeveloped Tripura Sundari Temple. This iconic Hindu shrine, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, holds a special place in the hearts of millions. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha shared these details during a media briefing in Agartala on Monday.

The PM will land in Agartala in the afternoon and head straight to Udaipur, the headquarters of Gomati district, about 65 km south of the capital. There, he’ll kick off the grand inauguration of the revamped temple and its beautified surroundings. After that, Modi will offer prayers at the nearby Kali Temple before heading back to Agartala and flying out to Delhi. No public speech is on the cards this time, as per the current schedule.

Saha mentioned he personally invited the Prime Minister to grace the event. Preparations are in full swing—top officials, including Director General of Police Anurag, recently checked the arrangements in Udaipur. The Chief Minister himself, along with other ministers, visited the site last week to ensure everything runs smoothly for PM Modi’s Tripura visit.

This redevelopment comes under the central government’s PRASHAD scheme, aimed at boosting pilgrimage sites and spiritual heritage. The 524-year-old Tripura Sundari Temple got a massive makeover at a cost of over Rs 52 crore, with the Tripura government chipping in another Rs 7 crore. Built in 1501 by King Maharaja Dhanya Manikya, it’s a symbol of Tripura’s rich cultural heritage and ranks as the third Shakti Peetha in eastern India—after Kolkata’s Kalighat Kali Temple and Guwahati’s Kamakhya Temple.

A quick history note: Tripura joined India on October 15, 1949, after the princely state signed a merger agreement with the Indian government, ending over 500 years of royal rule.

But that’s not all—Tripura is gearing up for even bigger things in religious tourism. Just 4 km from the temple, in the serene village of Banduar in Gomati district, work is underway on the 51 Shakti Peethas Park. This ambitious project, costing Rs 97.70 crore, will feature replicas of all 51 Shakti Peethas from across India, creating an immersive experience for visitors. Chief Minister Saha laid the foundation stone and performed the Bhumi Pujan on July 13.

Nestled amid lush greenery, the park promises a peaceful vibe with top-notch facilities. Think food courts, souvenir shops, clean drinking water, spacious parking, restrooms, guest stays, beautiful gardens, mythology museums, and fun activities. It’s all about celebrating Shakti worship and drawing pilgrims to explore Tripura’s spiritual side.

This redevelopment and the new park highlight Tripura’s push to become a must-visit spot for Hindu pilgrims and tourists. Stay tuned for more updates on PM Modi’s visit and these exciting developments!
