Walz slammed in wake of viral video that raises Minnesota daycare funding questions: ‘Needs to be held accountable’

A viral clip that ran on X and YouTube over the weekend prompted lawmakers and internet personalities to hurl sharp criticisms at Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. The 42‑minute recording, produced by independent journalist Nick Shirley, shows the group touring several childcare facilities in the state, including a Minneapolis site that bears a misspelled sign reading “Quality Learing Center.” The center, which is supposed to serve 99 children, reportedly received roughly $4 million in state money but shows no visible activity on the footage.
On Saturday, Senator JD Vance took to the platform to frame the episode as a “microcosm of the immigration fraud in our system.” He added that “politicians like it because they get power. welfare cheats like it because they get rich” and that the situation is a “zero‑sum game” that steals both money and “political power from Minnesotans.” Vance’s earlier post had highlighted alleged Somali‑related Medicaid and voter fraud in the state.
Rep. Mike Lawler, R‑NY, demanded that Walz be held accountable, writing on X that “folks need to be arrested and prosecuted and the Governor of Minnesota needs to be held accountable.” He urged Congress to convene an immediate hearing for answers.
The video and the ensuing debate come amid a broader scandal over Walz’s administration, which allegedly lost more than $1 billion to social‑services fraud, much of it linked to the Somali community in the Twin Cities. Reports even suggest that some of the misallocated money may have reached the Somali extremist group Al‑Shabab—a claim that has added fuel to the controversy.
Other conservatives joined the chorus. Donald Trump Jr. urged followers to watch the clip and accused mainstream media of ignoring the issue, while Elon Musk warned that “the more you look at it, the more you will be horrified at what your tax money is doing and the fact that, if this is not reversed, your vote will mean nothing.” Musk further targeted the Somali voting bloc in Minnesota, referencing the election of Ilhan Omar. A day earlier, Musk simply posted, “Prosecute [Tim Walz].”
Neither Walz nor Lawler responded to requests for comment from Fox News Digital. The controversy underscores long‑standing tensions over state funding, immigration policy, and the oversight of public services in Minnesota.
