A 48‑year‑old man from Wyandanch, Long Island, was found guilty of raping his 12‑year‑old daughter and other sexual offenses. The Suffolk County jury reached its verdict Thursday after the defendant’s abuse spanned two years, from age 12 to 14.
The victim moved into the father’s house after he obtained custody from an out‑of‑state relative who could no longer care for her. According to County District Attorney Ray Tierney, the father began grooming and sexually abusing the girl, claiming it was “helping her.” The abuse escalated, and the victim eventually confided in a friend and a teacher.
In court, the father was convicted on multiple counts of rape and other violent sexual crimes against a minor, plus a charge of endangering a child’s welfare. He faces up to 50 years in prison. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for December 3.
The case highlights serious concerns about child sexual abuse and the importance of safeguarding youth, especially when changes in custody occur. The court’s decision underscores the commitment of Suffolk County authorities to hold abusers accountable and protect vulnerable children.
