Dept of Military Affairs successfully conducts nationwide Swachhata campaign

Indian Armed Forces Ramp Up Cleanliness Drive: Key Highlights from Swachhata Campaign

The Department of Military Affairs (DMA) is taking big steps to keep things clean and efficient across India. From November 2024 to August 2025, they ran a whopping 350 Swachhata campaigns nationwide, as per a recent update from the Ministry of Defence. This push shows how seriously the armed forces are treating the Swachhata campaign, a nationwide initiative to promote cleanliness and better governance.

Teams reviewed a massive 40,245 files during this time and got rid of 15,535 unnecessary ones. Offices made it a habit by setting aside two hours every week just for these Swachhata activities, helping everyone stay organized and clutter-free.

The drive didn’t stop at files. They also cleared out a ton of pending requests and complaints. This includes handling 16,497 Right to Information (RTI) applications, 1,119 RTI appeals, 4,990 grievances through the Centralised Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS), 1,008 CPGRAMS appeals, one reference from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), and 14 VIP references. It’s all about making services faster and more responsive for the public.

The real action kicked off during Special Campaign 4.0, which ran from October 2 to 31, 2024. The armed forces jumped in with cleanliness drives at 4,792 locations across the country. They simplified 673 complex rules to make things easier for everyone, and even turned scrap into cash—generating ₹58.53 crores from selling off unused materials.

In numbers, this campaign was a hit: personnel reviewed 86,92,161 physical files and weeded out 40,890 of them. The best part? It freed up a huge 484,175 square feet of space in offices, giving everyone more room to work efficiently.

These efforts highlight the Indian armed forces’ strong commitment to the Swachhata campaign, blending cleanliness with smart governance to build a better system for all.
