Anti-terrorist operation continues in J&K’s Rajouri, lull after initial firing exchange

Jammu, Oct 8 – The security forces kept fighting in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir after a brief shoot‑out with suspected terrorists on Tuesday.

Police and armed men trucked into Dhar Sakhri village and fired back when they found a group of suspected attackers. Since the gunfire stopped early Wednesday, no new shots have been heard and no one was reported injured.

A tight cordon was set up around the area and army, paramilitary and police troops stayed overnight to keep the suspects from slipping away. Senior officers joined the teams and residents nearby were asked to stay inside until the location was cleared.

Across the union territory, the same hard‑line approach is in play. In the Dharni ridge of Basantgarh, Udhampur district, officers went in after locals spotted three workers linked to a terror cell. The forest area has seen several clashes before, and a recent death of a top attacker — Haider, also known as Maulvi, a Pakistani‑linked militant — last month reminded troops of the threat.

The Indian security apparatus is targeting the full terror network, from frontline fighters to the “over‑ground workers” who fund them. They are also on the lookout for drug smugglers, hawala money traffickers and other criminals whose profits keep the terror machine running.

With the cordon still tight and patrols continuing, the authorities say the enemy cannot escape. The operation remains active as security forces press to dismantle the terror infrastructure in the region.
