Commercial LPG cylinder prices hiked by Rs 15.50, no change in domestic rates

Oil marketing companies in India have bumped up the price of commercial LPG cylinders starting today, October 1. The 19-kg commercial cylinders now cost an extra Rs 15.50, bringing the retail price in Delhi to Rs 1,595.50.

This hike is part of the regular monthly tweak that these companies make to LPG prices, based on global market shifts. It mainly hits businesses like restaurants and hotels that rely on these larger cylinders for cooking and operations.

Good news for households, though—no changes to the 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinders used for everyday cooking. Prices have stayed steady since April 8. In Delhi, you’re still looking at Rs 853 per cylinder. Head to Chennai, and it’s Rs 868.50; Kolkata at Rs 879; and Mumbai at Rs 852.50, according to Indian Oil Corporation data.

Just last month, on September 1, these same companies cut the commercial cylinder price by Rs 51.50. That dropped the Delhi rate from Rs 1,631.50 in August to Rs 1,580, giving businesses a bit of relief.

Back in August, Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri praised the government’s move to keep LPG prices stable amid global ups and downs. The Union Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved Rs 30,000 crore in compensation—paid out in 12 installments—to support oil companies and hold the line on domestic LPG costs.
