Moscow, Nov 29 – The Russian Federal Agency for Subsoil Use announced that it had found two large silver deposits: Ungurskoye in Zabaykalsky Krai and Kegali in Magadan Oblast. The agency said the reserves are roughly 699.6 tonnes for Ungurskoye and 70.5 tonnes for Kegali. Polymetal plans to start development at the Kegali site in 2028, with an estimated outlay of 2.5 billion rubles (about $32.2 million), Xinhua reported.
TASS this week revealed that Russia has registered more than 200 new solid‑mineral discoveries since the start of 2025. Rosnedra told TASS that, on average, about 200 such deposits are uncovered annually by the state and private miners, and the current year follows that trend with over 200 additions already entered into the national reserves registry.
Among the most noteworthy finds of 2025 are the Ivanikhinskoye and Tselinnoye deposits of potassium‑magnesium salts in the Saratov region, with estimated reserves of 1 billion tonnes and 2 billion tonnes respectively. Another major discovery is the Zhidoiskoye deposit in the Irkutsk region, which holds millions of tonnes of titanium, phosphorus, and iron ore.
Rosnedra also highlighted the 699.6‑tonne silver reserve at the Ungurskoye deposit and the 70.5‑tonne reserve at Kegali, according to TASS.
The Magadan Oblast, situated in northeastern Russia along the Sea of Okhotsk, is dominated by the Kolyma Highland to the east and the high peaks of the Chersky Range (up to 2,586 m) in the center, with extensive lowlands in the southeast. The area borders the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Kamchatka, Khabarovsk, and the Chukotka Autonomous Area, and contains Russia’s largest known gold reserves. Production there includes gold, silver, ferrous and non‑ferrous metals, lignite, copper, molybdenum, basalt, limestone, and various cladding stones.
