Rajasthan Assembly Session Wraps Up: Key Highlights from Jaipur
In Jaipur, Rajasthan Legislative Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani called an end to the fourth session of the 16th Assembly on Wednesday. He adjourned the house indefinitely at 4:58 pm, wrapping things up with the national anthem playing.
This session kicked off on September 1 and ran for six sittings, clocking a total of 18 hours and 40 minutes. Devnani shared some impressive stats, noting that the Assembly hit a record high with timely responses to 91.5% of questions in the first three sessions combined.
Focusing on this fourth Rajasthan Assembly session, lawmakers received a whopping 3,008 questions. That included 1,237 starred questions, 1,770 unstarred ones, and just one short-notice question. Out of the 120 starred questions on the list, 53 got oral answers in the house.
Attention grabbers weren’t left out either. Under Rule 131, members submitted 437 proposals to draw attention to urgent issues. The Speaker rejected 14 of them, but listed two for discussion. For the first time, a solid 78% of these motions got responses— a big win for accountability.
Adjournment motions also made waves, with 134 filed by MLAs. The house admitted 21 for debate, and 17 members got a chance to voice their thoughts. Plus, 95 special mention motions came in, and the Assembly took up 78 of them. Looking back at the first three sessions, 651 such proposals arrived, with answers for 615—that’s a 94% response rate.
MLAs stayed active, submitting 267 slips to raise points, and 20 of those got the green light for discussion. On the bill front, the session saw seven new bills introduced, plus three from the Select Committee. In total, the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly passed 10 bills and withdrew one. Lawmakers proposed 161 amendments, with 115 making the cut and 46 turned down at the secretariat.
Devnani praised the ongoing reviews that have boosted the Assembly’s efficiency. "This sets a new standard for how our legislative body works," he said, highlighting the improvements in Rajasthan politics and governance.
The session’s success shows how the Rajasthan Assembly is stepping up its game, making sure voices get heard and questions get answered fast. Stay tuned for updates on when the next session might start!
