Asia Cup: Both teams unchanged as Pakistan elect to bat first against India

India vs Pakistan Asia Cup Clash Heats Up in Dubai

The excitement is buzzing in Dubai as India takes on Pakistan in a thrilling Group A match of the 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup. Pakistan’s captain Salman Agha won the toss and chose to bat first at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday. Both teams kept their line-ups unchanged after strong starts in the tournament.

India kicked off with a dominant nine-wicket win over UAE, while Pakistan crushed Oman by 93 runs. It’s a big day for India’s skipper Suryakumar Yadav, who celebrates his 35th birthday today. He sounded pleased with the toss outcome, saying, "We wanted to bowl first, and we’re happy with that. We played on a good wicket last time, and it gets even better for batting under lights. It’s humid here, so dew might play a role later."

Salman Agha surprised many by opting to bat on a venue known for high chases. "We’ve been in top form and can’t wait for this," he shared. "The pitch looks slow, so we want to set a big total. We’ve been training here for over 20 days and know the conditions well."

Cricket experts agree the surface could favor spinners. Sanjay Manjrekar, former India player, noted in his pitch report that it appears drier than usual, making spin a key weapon. Ravi Shastri, ex-India coach, pointed out how both teams’ selections hint at a turning track.

This Asia Cup India vs Pakistan showdown marks their first international cricket meeting since diplomatic tensions spiked earlier this year. It follows the tragic Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, leading to India’s Operation Sindoor against terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

India’s sports ministry allows matches in global events like this Asia Cup T20, but bans bilateral series in each other’s countries. The strain showed at the toss—no handshake between Suryakumar and Salman.

Here’s how the teams line up:

India XI: Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav (c), Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson (wk), Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Varun Chakaravarthy.

Pakistan XI: Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub, Mohammad Haris (wk), Fakhar Zaman, Salman Agha (c), Hasan Nawaz, Mohammad Nawaz, Faheem Ashraf, Shaheen Afridi, Sufiyan Muqeem, Abrar Ahmed.

All eyes are on this high-stakes Asia Cup 2025 encounter—will Pakistan post a challenging score, or can India’s bowlers strike early? Stay tuned for live updates!
