‘Always demonstrated courage’, Prez Murmu leads nation in honouring bravehearts on Air Force Day

New Delhi – President Droupadi Murmu fired off a heartfelt message on X, wishing the Indian Air Force (IAF) a happy 93rd Air Force Day. She praised the courage, dedication, and hard work of past and present air warriors, saying the IAF “protects our skies and serves the nation with tireless dedication during disasters and humanitarian missions.” The president also wished the force “success in all future endeavours.”
The IAF’s 93rd birthday marks almost a century of flying its first operational mission back in 1933. Since its founding in 1932, the IAF has become a key part of India’s defense strategy, flying missions in every major conflict – 1947, 1965, 1971, and the 1999 Kargil war – and stepping in for humanitarian aid across the country and abroad.
In the same month, Home Minister Amit Shah shared his congratulations on X, calling the IAF a “guardian of our skies” and paying tribute to those who have fallen in service. Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari also sent his best wishes, urging the brave soldiers to keep defending India.
Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi took to the platform, saying, “Heartfelt greetings and salute to the brave warriors of the Indian Air Force…We honour your unparalleled valor, sacrifices, and self‑less service to the nation.”
Air Force Day reminds all Indians of the countless sacrifices made by pilots, ground crew, and support staff. It also highlights the IAF’s growing technological edge and strategic importance in protecting the nation’s airspace.
