Smriti Mandhana becomes 7th-highest run-getter in women’s ODIs

Smriti Mandhana Surges Up ODI Run Charts with Impressive Knock Against Australia

In a thrilling start to the series, Indian cricket star Smriti Mandhana has climbed to seventh place on the all-time ODI run-scorers list. She overtook New Zealand’s Amy Satterthwaite during the first ODI against Australia in New Chandigarh, Punjab, on September 14.

Mandhana smashed a solid 58 runs off 63 balls, featuring six fours and two sixes at a strike rate of 92.06. This performance pushed her total to 4,646 runs in 106 ODIs, with an average of 46.46. She now boasts 11 centuries, 32 fifties, and a highest score of 136. Satterthwaite, with 4,639 runs in 145 innings and seven centuries, slips to eighth.

At the top of the ODI run-getters remains India’s legendary Mithali Raj, who racked up 7,805 runs in 232 matches across 211 innings. Her average stands at an impressive 50.68, including seven centuries, 64 fifties, and a best of 125 not out.

The match also marked a milestone for India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, who played her 150th ODI. However, she struggled, scoring just 11 runs off nine balls.

India won the toss and chose to bat first, setting a strong foundation with openers Smriti Mandhana and debutant Pratika Rawal. Their 114-run partnership lit up the innings—Rawal notched 64 off 96 balls with six fours, while Mandhana hit a fifty.

Harleen Deol kept the momentum going with 54 off 57 balls, including four boundaries and two sixes. She partnered with wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh for a quick 46-run stand for the fifth wicket. Ghosh added 25 off 20 balls, with two fours and a six, helping India cross 200 runs.

The team posted a challenging 281/7 in 50 overs. Australia’s bowlers fought back, led by Megan Schutt who claimed 2/45 in seven overs. Annabel Sutherland, Alana King, and Tahlia McGrath each picked up one wicket.

Now, India must defend 282 to grab a winning start in this three-match ODI series. A victory here sets them up nicely for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup at home, kicking off on September 30 against Sri Lanka in Guwahati. Fans are buzzing—can the hosts build early momentum?
