On Tuesday, authorities arrested two men after a violent baseball‑bat assault and stabbing that took place near Times Square.
Paul Ohore, 32, and Alagie Jatta, 29, both residents of the Bronx, were taken into custody on warrants around 6:50 a.m. They now face murder charges stemming from the brutal November 24 attack on 23‑year‑old Daevon Silva, officials reported.
Silva, originally from Pawtucket, was struck with the baseball bat and later stabbed in the back and right thigh shortly after 1 a.m. near West 49th Street and Seventh Avenue. Authorities at the time suggested the incident may have been drug‑related.
He was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where officials pronounced him dead.
According to reports, at least one of the perpetrators was acquainted with Silva, and a confrontation between them quickly escalated into lethal violence.
Jatta carries a record of five prior arrests, the most recent being in November 2023 for possession of a firearm, police said.
In February 2022, NYPD agents also apprehended him after he allegedly stabbed and wounded a 55‑year‑old man in the Bronx.
Ohore was last arrested in 2019 for driving with a suspended registration and has two additional past arrests for gun possession, police disclosed.
Sources note that Silva had no prior legal troubles in New York City but did have a minor criminal history in Rhode Island.
