Telangana: BJP MP K Laxman leads ‘Dhanyavaad Modi Ji’ padayatra after new GST rates implemented

In Hyderabad, BJP leader K. Laxman, who heads the party’s OBC Morcha and serves as a Rajya Sabha MP, kicked off a lively “Dhanyavaad Modi Ji” foot march on Monday. He praised the government’s fresh GST reforms as a special Diwali and Dussehra surprise straight from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to everyday folks.

“This is PM Modi’s Diwali and Dussehra gift for the common man—people are thrilled,” Laxman told during the event. He highlighted how life-saving drugs and life insurance policies now go tax-free under the new rules. Laxman urged shopkeepers and traders to get on board and help roll out these GST changes smoothly.

The march, put together by BJP’s OBC Morcha, drew crowds of party supporters and local leaders. They handed out flyers spelling out how the GST reforms could ease costs for regular consumers in India.

Earlier that day, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri echoed the excitement around these GST updates. He noted that the changes, which kicked in today, are sparking joy across the country and could give India’s GDP a solid 0.8% lift.

“With Navratri underway, it’s like a budget festival too—there’s happiness everywhere you look,” Puri said in an interview. “Lowering GST rates on everyday items helps everyone, but it really lifts the lower middle class and economically weaker sections. These reforms align with our push for a self-reliant Viksit Bharat, and all parts of society are welcoming them.”

On Sunday, Prime Minister Modi shared warm Navratri wishes with the nation through a video message, celebrating the festival that honors the divine power of Shakti. The timing of these GST reforms adds extra cheer to the festive season in India.
