Jamieson won’t do it every day, but we bank on experience: Santner on pacer’s back-to-back clutch spells

New Zealand edged the West Indies by nine runs in the third match of their five‑game T20I series on Sunday, moving the Kiwis to a 2‑1 lead.
New Zealand posted 177‑9 thanks to a solid 56 from Chris Conway and a 41 from Daryl Mitchell. The target for the West Indies was 178, but they fell short.
Wicket‑takers Ish Sodhi and Jacob Duffy each claimed three wickets, helping the Kiwi bowlers restrict the West Indies to nine runs less than the chase. Kyle Jamieson shone again, keeping the West Indies at bay in the final over to secure another series win.
Cap‑coach Mitchell Santner praised the group’s collective effort. “Different players stepped up at different times, and that’s really important in a five‑match series,” he said. “We got a scrappy win, but it was good to be on the right side of a close game.”
Santner added that bowling against a deep‑set West Indies batting line‑up is always tough. “We tried to keep taking wickets even with their strong partnerships. We could have chased a higher total, but the boys adapted quickly with cutters and good variations.”
He highlighted Jamieson’s double check’er over in consecutive games as proving his nerves under pressure. “People learn from moments like these,” Santner noted. “If Jamieson keeps performing, he’ll be a key option for the World Cup.”
The win puts New Zealand in a strong position heading into the final two T20Is of the series. The West Indies will look to bounce back as the curtain closes on this thrilling showdown.
