Doha – India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, visited Qatar on Sunday to meet Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and underline the growing partnership between the two nations. The trip followed a February state visit that elevated India‑Qatar relations to a “strategic partnership.”
On his arrival, Jaishankar sent warm greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and pledged deeper cooperation across energy, trade and investment. “It was an honour to address Sheikh Tamim in Doha and reiterate our commitment to a stronger India‑Qatar friendship,” Jaishankar posted on X.
The minister also met Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al‑Thani. Together, they reviewed the Strategic Partnership, focusing on energy security, expanding trade lanes, attracting investment and boosting people‑to‑people exchanges. “We discussed ways to strengthen cooperation and share views on regional and global developments,” Jaishankar added.
Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the talks centered on bilateral ties and practical steps to deepen collaboration. “Both sides examined issues of shared concern and ways to enhance mutual benefits,” the ministry said.
Earlier this year, India’s Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal met Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs, Ahmed bin Mohammed Al‑Sayed, in Doha. Goyal welcomed the visit and recalled a 2023 delegation from Qatar that visited India. “We look forward to increasing trade and investment ties,” he said on X.
India and Qatar first established diplomatic ties in 1973. Over the past decade, the two countries have expanded cooperation across sectors, driven by India’s large migrant workforce and Qatar’s growing trade and investment interests. The latest high‑level meetings signal a continued push for economic partnership and political support in regional forums.
As India and Qatar strengthen their economic and strategic ties, the two nations aim to create new opportunities for businesses, enhance connectivity, and deepen cultural links, further enriching the long‑standing relationship that serves both peoples.
