New Delhi – Bahrain’s top diplomat, Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani, said the country is ready to deepen ties with India. He met with India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar during Jaishankar’s official visit to New Delhi.
During the 5th India‑Bahrain High Joint Commission meeting, Alzayani spoke at the start of the session. He highlighted that Bahrain will focus on promoting regional peace while it serves a two‑year term on the United Nations Security Council. “We are committed to making our partnership with India stronger,” he said. “I look forward to talks that bring real results and boost all levels of cooperation.”
Alzayani stressed that trade and economic links are a cornerstone of the relationship. India remains one of Bahrain’s main trading partners. “Our two countries have a long history that goes back almost 5,000 years, from the ancient Dilmun civilization to the Indus Valley,” he added. “Today that historical bond still helps both of us grow together.”
He also mentioned plans to increase connectivity between India and the Gulf. “Good peace in the Middle East is vital for more trade links. We hope to keep dialogue and mutual respect at the center of the region’s future,” he said. He praised the vibrant Indian community in Bahrain as proof of the close friendship between the two nations.
Before the meeting, Jaishankar expressed thanks to the Bahrain Foreign Minister. He posted on X that he was glad to welcome Dr. Alzayani to New Delhi and that the High Joint Commission would be productive.
The talks mark another step as Bahrain and India continue to expand cooperation on trade, culture, and regional stability.
