Sharjah Narrative Forum concludes 21st session in Egypt

The 21st Sharjah Narrative Forum wrapped up its exciting two-day event in Cairo, Egypt, bringing together more than 60 talented writers, academics, and critics from Egypt and the Arab world. Held under the theme “The Novel and Artificial Intelligence,” the forum sparked lively discussions on how AI is shaking up storytelling and creative writing.

Organized with the support of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah and Supreme Council Member, this gathering dives deep into the world of narratives—from novels to other creative forms. It highlights the evolving role of artificial intelligence in literature, making it a hot topic for book lovers and tech enthusiasts alike.

The grand closing happened at the Supreme Council of Culture in Cairo. Key figures like Abdullah Al Owais, Chairman of the Sharjah Department of Culture; Ashraf Al-Azzazi, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Culture; Mohamed Ibrahim Al Qusair, Director of Cultural Affairs and Forum Director; and Hussein Al-Qabbahi, Director of Luxor Poetry House, joined in to celebrate. Organizers handed out certificates of appreciation to all participants, giving a big shoutout to their ideas and inspiring more innovative work in narrative arts.

On the final day, attendees tackled some thought-provoking sessions. The second theme asked: “Will Artificial Intelligence Create New Narrative Elements?” Experts debated how AI could spark fresh ideas in stories and plots.

The third session zoomed in on “Artificial Intelligence and Its Impact on the Disintegration of the Human Condition in the Novel.” Here, speakers explored how tech might change the emotional core of books and what it means for human experiences on the page.

Wrapping it up, the fourth theme tackled “Challenges Facing Writing in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,” with the big question: “Will the Novel Disappear or Remain a Chronicle of Humanity and Place?” Panelists weighed in on whether novels will thrive or fade amid AI’s rise.

A special testimonies session let authors share personal stories from their writing journeys. They stressed that the novel stays true to the heart—capturing our inner worlds and human struggles, no matter how advanced technology gets.

This Sharjah Narrative Forum event shows how artificial intelligence is reshaping literature, offering fresh insights for writers and readers curious about the future of novels.
