Bobby Deol completes three decades in Hindi cinema: I’m just getting started

Mumbai – 6 October
Bobby Deol opened his Bollywood career with the 1995 hit Barsaat. Thirty years on, the actor says he’s just getting started.
After Barsaat he landed roles in a string of films – Gupt: The Hidden Truth, Kareeb, Soldier, Badal, Hum To Mohabbat Karega, Bichhoo, Ajnabee, Humraaz and Jhoom Barabar Jhoom. Success hit hard and then slipped, but De ol bounced back with Apne, Yamla Pagla Deewana and Housefull 4.
His recent resurgence began with the 2021 releases Class of ’83 and Aashram. Then Animal (2022) became a turning point. De ol posted a montage of all his film posters on Instagram, adding that Animal “changed [his] life”. In the caption he wrote:
“30 years of many emotions on and off screen … all made worthwhile by your love. That fire still burns and I’m just getting started!”
The actor’s film Bandar (Monkey In A Cage) went beyond India’s borders. It was chosen for the Special Presentations section of the 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Bandar tackles power, trauma and memory through the story of a celebrity accused of rape, shining a light on India’s legal system. Produced by Nikhil Dwivedi and directed by Anurag Kashyap, the film also stars Saba Azad, Sanya Malhotra and Sapna Pabbi.
Moving forward, De ol has three high‑profile releases lined up.
- Alpha – a spy action film starring Alia Bhatt, directed by Shiv Rawail. It is the seventh entry in Yash Raj Films’ spy series that started with the Tiger movies. Alpha is slated for release over the Christmas‑holiday weekend of 2025.
- Jana Nayagan – a political thriller featuring Vijay, Pooja Hegde and Bobby himself. The cast also includes Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain and Priyamani.
- Bandar – already a critical success and a conversation starter, it continues to build De ol’s reputation for tackling bold subjects.
Beyond the screen, De ol balances a film career with a supportive fan base. His father, veteran actor Dharmendra, and brother, Sunny Deol, are famous names in Bollywood, but Bobby says his passion for cinema and his own “fire” keep him motivated.
With new projects spanning action, thriller and socially relevant drama, Bobby Deol is proving that a 30‑year journey in Hindi cinema can still surprise and thrive.
