Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted a warm message on Tuesday to all Indians on Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti, the holiday that marks the birth anniversary of the author of the ancient epic, the Ramayana. In a short tweet on X, Modi praised Valmiki’s “pure and ideal thoughts” and said they continue to shape society and families.
“Heartfelt greetings to all fellow citizens on the occasion of Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti,” Modi wrote. “Since ancient times, his pure and ideal thoughts have had a profound impact on our society and families. His conceptual beacon, based on social harmony, will continue to illuminate the lives of all citizens forever.”
President Droupadi Murmu also celebrated the day, sharing how Valmiki’s version of the Ramayana has inspired people through the story of Lord Ram. In her X post, she called Valmiki “a symbol of spiritual awakening, compassion and human ideals” and urged citizens to take to heart the values of the epic.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath highlighted the moral lessons of the Ramayana, saying the epic “inspires us to walk the path of truth, justice and righteousness, along with human, social and national values.” He expressed respect for Valmiki as the creator of the great epic that introduced humanity to the ideal character of Lord Ram.
The Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti, also known as Pargat Diwas, is celebrated on the full‑moon day (Purnima) of the Hindu month of Ashwin. It is a day of reflection on Valmiki’s contributions to Indian culture and values that continue to guide society today.
