Sonakshi Sinha shares how cross-pollination strengthens pan-India film movement

In Mumbai, actress Sonakshi Sinha—known for her role in the newly released mythological‑supernatural thriller Jatadhara—shared her thoughts on the growing trend of pan‑India films, where stars and technicians from different regions join forces.

The pan‑India movement isn’t new; it began with popular films of Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan reaching audiences across the country via satellite. The trend really surged after the blockbuster Baahubali franchise, opening doors for actors and crews from North, South, East and West India to collaborate.

During the film’s promotional run in Andheri West, Sonakshi was asked whether the pressure to appeal to a wider audience adds extra stress for performers. She laughed and said no. “The more the merrier,” she replied. “Working with talented artists from different languages and cultures is a huge learning experience.” She added that each team member brings a unique story, and that’s a major draw for her.

In Jatadhara, directed by Venkat Kalyan and Abhishek Jaiswal, Sonakshi plays a mysterious pishachini—a female spirit. The plot follows Sudheer Babu’s character, who gets drawn into a dark world of rituals and redemption while chasing an ancient treasure guarded by demonic forces. Sudheer and Shilpa Shirodkar also star in the film, which blends Indian folklore and black magic into a gripping thriller.

Speaking to , Sonakshi emphasized the value of listening and observing. “Being a good actor comes from hearing people’s stories and noticing their behavior,” she said. “You never know when a particular story might inspire a role you’ll play later.”

Jatadhara is produced by Zee Studios, with Umesh KR Bansal, Prerna Arora, Aruna Agarwal and others leading the project. It’s currently screening in Hindi and Telugu across Indian cinemas. The film showcases how cross‑regional talent can bring fresh perspectives to Indian cinema, appealing to audiences from different parts of the country.
