‘Special place in hell’ for man accused of killing pregnant dog: prosecutor

Police say a man carrying meth was the one who killed a pregnant Maltese in a sadistic way.

Eric Lyn Holliday is charged with tying a rope around the dog’s neck, anchoring one end to the tow hitch of his Ford Expedition and the other to a parking bollard in a quiet alley in Anaheim on December 1. He allegedly looped the rope over the animal, drove off, and left the pup to die. The Orange County district attorney says the force of the rope snapped the dog’s neck. It’s unclear whether Holliday owned the dog.

The six‑year‑old pup died from a severed spinal cord and broken arteries. A local business owner found the animal hours after the violent act.

“There is a special place in hell for people who abuse animals. This was not an act of rage. This was a clear plan to kill a defenseless animal,” said District Attorney Todd Spitzer.

Holliday was already on probation for a prior assault on a coworker with a metal pipe. When police stopped him, he had several bags of amphetamines. He now faces a felony charge of animal cruelty and a second charge for possessing a hard drug with multiple convictions, which could put him behind bars for up to thirteen years.
