Heartbreaking Double Tragedy Shocks Phuliya Kala Village in Rajasthan
Imagine a quiet village suddenly plunged into endless grief— that’s the story unfolding in Phuliya Kala, a small community in Shahpura, Bhilwara district, Rajasthan. In just 24 hours, two devastating accidents have claimed nine lives and left one person missing, leaving families and neighbors heartbroken.
The nightmare began early on September 14. A family from Phuliya Kala was driving back from Haridwar after a solemn ritual—they had immersed the ashes of their beloved elder, Gopal Vaishnav, who passed away just a week earlier. But tragedy struck on the Jaipur ring road near Shivdaspura. Their speeding car lost control and plunged 16 feet into a water-filled underpass.
The victims included Ashok Vaishnav, 47, a respected temple priest at Dhaneshwar; his wife Seema Devi, 45; their son Rohit, 23, who ran a local grocery shop; and little Gajraj, Rohit’s 6-year-old grandson. Tragically, Rohit’s brother Ramraj Vaishnav, 38, his wife Madhu, 36, and their 14-month-old son Rudra also died on the spot. Seven lives gone in an instant, wiping out four generations of the Vaishnav family—from Gopal to his son, grandson, and great-grandson.
By the morning of September 15, the bodies of Ashok, Seema, Rohit, and Gajraj arrived back in the village. Amid tears and wails, villagers gathered for their cremation at the Dhaneshwar Road crematorium. In a heartbreaking twist of tradition, many locals headed to the nearby Khari river for a ritual bath right after. But the river turned deadly.
Strong currents swept away seven young men from the village. Brave locals jumped in to help, managing to pull out Vijay Pratap Singh, 30; Mukesh Goswami, 25; Rakesh, 28; and Jivraj, 30—all alive but in serious condition. Rescue teams rushed them to the hospital. Sadly, Mahendra Mali, 25, and Bardi Chand, 34, couldn’t be saved and drowned. Mahesh, 35, remains missing, with divers still searching the swollen Khari river waters.
This double tragedy—a fatal car accident in Jaipur followed by a river drowning in Bhilwara—has shattered Phuliya Kala. The village, already mourning Gopal’s death, now grapples with unimaginable loss. Ashok’s elder son Pankaj, who works as a farmer and taxi driver, stands as the sole breadwinner for what’s left of the family. Gajraj’s twin sister and younger brother survived the crash, but the pain echoes through every home.
As rescue efforts continue along the Khari river, the community rallies together, sharing stories of the lives cut short. Phuliya Kala’s residents are calling for better road safety on the Jaipur ring road and warnings about river dangers during the monsoon season. In a village forever changed, the grief feels endless, but their unity shines through the darkness.
