Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Pushes for Industry Tie-Ups to Clean Yamuna River and Fight Air Pollution
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta took a big step forward on Monday by inviting industries and corporates to join hands with the government. The goal? To revive the polluted Yamuna River, battle toxic air pollution, and clear out massive waste dumps in the national capital. This comes as part of a special event called “Revival of Yamuna and Delhi – A CSR Dialogue” held at Raj Niwas.
Speaking at the programme, CM Gupta shared her vision for a “Viksit Delhi” – a developed and thriving Delhi. She stressed that her government wants strong partnerships with the industry to make this happen. “We see this as a natural extension of successful CSR efforts led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” she said. CSR, or Corporate Social Responsibility, means companies stepping up to support social causes like environmental clean-ups.
CM Gupta made it clear: Cleaning the Yamuna River and making it pure is a top priority for her administration. The dialogue included Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena and Water Minister Parvesh Verma. “Public-private partnerships will give fresh energy to our fight for clean air, a spotless Yamuna, and a waste-free Delhi,” she added.
The government is eyeing practical fixes, like using modern tech for sewage treatment, building a long-term eco-friendly work culture, and tapping into CSR funds from companies. In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), CM Gupta wrote: “Our Delhi government is on a warpath against Yamuna pollution, garbage mountains, and air pollution. Projects like Bansera, Asita, and Vatika along the Yamuna show that determination gets results. We’re all in to unite stakeholders for a clean, beautiful, and green Delhi.”
The event drew top government officials, leaders from major industry groups, Indian corporates, and public sector bosses. The Delhi Jal Board even shared a clear roadmap, highlighting key areas where industries can partner up for Yamuna cleaning and waste management.
Lt Governor Saxena pointed out the big three challenges plaguing Delhi: Yamuna pollution, huge solid waste piles, and severe air pollution. These issues have even drawn global criticism to the city. He praised the government’s ongoing efforts, noting that positive changes are already showing. But he added a key point: Real success needs everyone on board, especially corporates through their CSR initiatives.
CM Gupta echoed this, calling on industries to focus on tech-driven sewage solutions and a sustainable culture to end Yamuna pollution for good. She suggested setting up a special “corpus fund” via CSR to fund these projects. To make it easy, she promised that the Delhi Jal Board will hand over a list of ready projects where companies can directly invest their CSR money.
This push for Yamuna revival and air pollution control in Delhi signals a united front. With industry involvement, experts believe Delhi could soon breathe easier and see a cleaner river flowing through its heart. Stay tuned for updates on these green initiatives!
