PM Modi inaugurates Assam Bioethanol Plant, lays foundation for Polypropylene Plant

Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off his two-day visit to Assam with a bang on Sunday, launching key projects that promise to boost clean energy, industry, and connectivity in the state. In Golaghat district, he inaugurated the Assam Bioethanol Plant at Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL). This move is a big win for India’s clean energy push, helping cut down on fossil fuel use and promoting sustainable growth.

Modi also laid the foundation stone for the Polypropylene Plant at NRL, set to supercharge Assam’s petrochemical sector. These projects will create jobs and open new doors for locals, fueling the region’s economic rise.

Earlier in the day, the PM turned his attention to healthcare and infrastructure. He laid the foundation for the Darrang Medical College and Hospital, along with a GNM School and B.Sc. Nursing College in Darrang district. These steps aim to strengthen medical education and services in Assam.

To ease traffic woes in the bustling capital, Modi kicked off the Guwahati Ring Road Project. This will improve urban mobility, reduce congestion, and connect key areas around Guwahati like never before.

Bridging the mighty Brahmaputra River got a major boost too. The PM laid the foundation for the Kuruwa-Narengi Bridge, which will enhance connectivity and drive socio-economic development across the region.

But the visit wasn’t just about development—Modi didn’t hold back in his sharp criticism of the Congress party during a rally in Darrang. He accused them of siding with Pakistan’s army during Operation Sindoor and spreading lies from across the border instead of supporting India’s armed forces.

“For its politics, Congress links up with ideologies against India. We saw this in Operation Sindoor,” Modi said. “When Congress ruled, terrorism bled the nation, and they stayed silent. They destroyed terror leaders in Pakistan, but Congress stood with the Pakistani army, not ours.”

He went on to slam Congress for prioritizing vote banks over national security, alleging they protect infiltrators and anti-nationals. “Today, Congress shields infiltrators and anti-national forces. In their time, they encouraged infiltration, and now they want these people to settle here and shape India’s future,” Modi added.

Modi also hit out at Congress for disrespecting Assam’s cultural icon, legendary singer Bhupen Hazarika. “When the ‘Namdaar’ (dynasty) slaps the ‘Kamdaar’ (worker) and he cries, they say you don’t even have the right to complain. Music lovers and those devoted to India’s soul must ask Congress why they insulted Bhupen Da,” he said. The double-engine government, he stressed, focuses on honoring Assam’s heritage while driving fast-track development.

In total, these initiatives—covering infrastructure, industry, and health—add up to over Rs 18,530 crore in investments for Assam’s growth. Modi’s visit highlights the government’s commitment to Northeast India’s progress through projects like the Numaligarh Bioethanol Plant and Guwahati Ring Road.
