In a big moment for Indian politics, the Congress party’s top decision-making group, the Congress Working Committee (CWC), gathers in Patna, Bihar, on Wednesday. This marks the first time the CWC has met in the state since India’s independence, bringing the party’s heavy hitters to Sadaqat Ashram.
The timing couldn’t be more crucial. With Bihar Assembly elections on the horizon, Congress leaders aim to gear up their strategy while tackling wider hurdles for the opposition INDIA bloc. It’s all about strengthening their position against the ruling government.
Himachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri called it a key event. “It’s an important meeting, and the top leadership of Congress is coming here,” he said.
Pawan Khera, another Congress spokesperson, drove home the stakes. “Our agenda is to save democracy,” he noted. “This meeting isn’t just about elections—it’s about protecting the Constitution and our country’s institutions.”
Sachin Pilot, former Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister and Congress leader, highlighted Bihar’s role. “This is an important meeting in an important state,” he said. “People in Bihar want change, and Congress is ready to lead that shift.”
Over 170 senior Congress figures will join, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge, UPA chair Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and chief ministers like Karnataka’s Siddaramaiah, Telangana’s A. Revanth Reddy, and Himachal Pradesh’s Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. You’ll also see familiar faces such as Ashok Gehlot, Shashi Tharoor, and Sachin Pilot.
Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi stressed its impact. “It’s a very important and crucial meeting,” he said. “Decisions here will shape the party’s path not only in Bihar but across India.”
Bihar Congress MLA Shakeel Ahmad Khan added some excitement. “We’re fully prepared and enthusiastic to welcome our leaders,” he shared. “The issues on the table are vital, and Bihar is set to step up.”
Independent MP Pappu Yadav from Purnia went even further, calling it historic. “This is a turning point,” he said. “What could be happier than starting the fight for a new independence from this land?”
Expect the CWC to dive into hot topics like Bihar election tactics, how the INDIA bloc allies work together, and national headaches such as inflation, unemployment, and concerns over democratic erosion under the current regime.
Tensions are simmering too, especially between Congress and ally RJD on seat-sharing for Bihar polls. Congress wants a fair deal, pushing for each partner to get a balanced share of strong constituencies.
This Patna meet could signal a fresh push for opposition unity as India eyes its next big political battles.
