Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 8 – Kerala’s state cabinet has announced a new public outreach drive called Nava Keralam – Citizen Response Programme. The plan, unveiled by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, will go live from 1 January to 28 February 2026.
The programme aims to open a two‑month conversation between residents and officials. Residents will share ideas for better infrastructure, emerging local needs and how existing welfare schemes can be improved. The initiative will also let the public comment on government projects and other programmes, giving a fresh pulse to state development plans.
Volunteers from the state’s social volunteer network will help roll out the campaign across the region. Before the launch, the government will run training sessions and awareness drives so everyone knows how to participate.
To guide the effort, a four‑member State Advisory Committee – headed by Chief Secretary E. Jayathilak and members that include IIM Kozhikode Professor Saji Gopinath – has been set up. A State Executive Committee will oversee day‑to‑day work, while smaller groups will operate at panchayat, municipality, corporation, assembly constituency and district levels. The Information and Public Relations Department Director will coordinate the entire project.
The final output will be a comprehensive report that lists development priorities, spots gaps in current projects, and gathers actionable suggestions from the people. That report will then guide future planning and help fine‑tune welfare delivery.
By linking citizen feedback to official planning, the government hopes to make welfare programmes more open, efficient and accountable—turning development projects into truly local and participatory actions.
