Timeline of Reiner murders: Inside the horrific 24 hours from party fight to dramatic arrest of son

More details are now coming to light about the killings of Rob Reiner and his wife Michelle, as authorities have taken their drug‑addicted son into custody on suspicion of stabbing the couple in their Los Angeles residence.

The 78‑year‑old legendary Hollywood director and his 70‑year‑old photographer spouse were discovered at their home with their throats cut, just a short time after a heated argument with their son Nick at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party.

Police are currently working out when the 32‑year‑old allegedly used a knife against his parents. Here’s the latest information on the tragedy:

Bitter party blowout

Sources say Nick had a huge argument with his celebrated parents during Conan O’Brien’s holiday party last Saturday night.

The family had a very noisy confrontation front of other attendees, which could have been sparked by Nick’s relapse into drugs and his refusal to attend another rehab program.

A lifelong family friend reported that after the confrontation at the party, Rob said people were worried about Nick and feared his mental health was getting worse.

Another source shared with People that Nick was making everyone uneasy, behaving erratically, and repeatedly asking attendees if they were famous.

Nick stared death‑intently at Bill Hader, an “SNL” alum, before storming away after the so‑called killer interrupted the comedian’s chat, and Hader kindly told him to back off, according to NBC sources.

According to the New York Times, many guests expressed concern over Nick’s behavior, noting he appeared jittery and off.

After the tense confrontation, Rob and Michelle were seen hurriedly leaving the upscale gathering.

It was unclear exactly when Nick departed the party.

A blood -soaked hotel room

People who saw Nick taking the key reported no marks indicating any fight.

However, when hotel staff prepared his room after he left earlier that morning without officially checking out, they discovered the shower was soaked in blood and his bed bore stains, according to sources.

Sheets had been draped over the windows as well.

The murder scene

Police were notified of the shocking homicide when Romy Reiner, the couple’s 28‑year‑old daughter who works as a magazine writer and is pursuing an acting career, found their parents’ bodies at their lavish Brentwood residence around 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

She then informed authorities that her unsettled brother should be considered a suspect due to his dangerous nature, per reports.

Dramatic arrest

Police focused on the son at around 9:15 p.m.

Video footage shows Nick being handcuffed near a Metro stop roughly 15 miles from the family home.

The LAPD Gang & Narcotics unit shared deleted images of Nick—his face obscured—being pushed to the floor with his palms turned behind him.

Another picture displayed officers pushing him toward the front of a squad vehicle.

He was transported to LA’s Twin Towers Correctional Facility and charged with murder.

When the arraignment was set for Tuesday, his lawyer Alan Jackson noted Nick was absent because he had not received medical clearance to travel from the jail.

Jackson added that Nick remains in custody without bail until he can legally travel to court, which could happen by Wednesday.
