Delhi Police ASI in CBI net for taking Rs 2.4 lakh bribe from house owner (Lead)

A Delhi Police officer was caught in a bribe sting by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) after he tried to get money from an East‑Delhi resident. The officer, an Assistant Sub‑Inspector named Patil Kumar, was arrested while accepting Rs 2.4 lakh—a huge reduction from the Rs 15 lakh he originally demanded—as part of a property‑verification case.

Patil Kumar worked at the Jyoti Nagar police station. The case began when Sanjay Kumar Sharma, who owns a house in Meet Nagar on Main Wazirabad Road, told the CBI that the officer asked him for a bribe to file a favorable report in a court hearing. The court at Karkardooma had ordered the officer to verify Sharma’s documents for his property, which he inherited from his father under a will.

Sharma said the officer threatened to submit a negative report if the bribe was not paid. He later convinced the officer to lower the demanded amount. On Sunday, the CBI set up a sting operation and caught Patil Kumar in the act of accepting the reduced bribe.

The CBI filed an official complaint after confirming Sharma’s story with an independent witness, food‑supply inspector Roshan Kumar. The report highlighted the officer’s alleged demand for a large bribe under the pretext of helping the court case.

The CBI’s investigation prompted the Superintendent of Police, I.B. Pendhari, to approve the registration of an FIR—RC0032025A0061—against the officer. The case is now being treated as a crime under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

This incident underscores Delhi’s ongoing crackdown on corruption and the role of the CBI in holding police officers accountable for bribery and abuse of power.
