Rashmika Mandanna: I’m not very good with expectations

In New Delhi on October 24, the popular actress Rashmika Mandanna shared her excitement about the buzz behind her new horror‑comedy “Thamma.” The film, which blends scares with laughs, has already drawn huge crowds—India’s opening day brought in a net take of ₹25.11 crore, and the first four days earned a total of ₹57.63 crore, according to sacnilk.com.

When reporters asked if she had expected such success, Rashmika said she only hoped the film would do well. “I’m not great with expectations,” she told . “I just want people to enjoy it, and that’s a relief.”

Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, “Thamma” also stars Nawazuddin Siddqui and Ayushmann Khurrana, and features a crossover with Varun Dhawan’s “Bhediya.” The movie is part of the Maddock Hall universe, which is known for weaving Indian folklore into its stories.

Rashmika believes that the film’s popularity comes from this deep cultural connection. “Indian folklore has always been part of our history,” she explained. “People love seeing those stories on screen. It’s a first for many and it brings everyone together—parents nod in recognition, while kids are surprised by what they’re seeing.”

The movie’s blend of horror and comedy, plus its nod to age‑old myths, seems to hit a sweet spot for all ages. Rashmika’s “Thamma” is proving that a fresh take on familiar tales can still pack a powerful punch at the box office.
