Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case: Bombay HC directs NCB to return Rhea Chakraborty’s passport

Mumbai, Sep 30 () – Bollywood actress Rhea Chakraborty just scored a big win in the ongoing Sushant Singh Rajput death case. The Bombay High Court has ordered the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) to hand back her passport, giving her some much-needed breathing room after years of restrictions.
You might recall that Rhea’s troubles started back in 2020, right after the tragic death of her boyfriend, actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Authorities arrested her in a related drug probe, but a month later, she got bail on the condition that she turn over her passport to the NCB. That move sidelined her career big time.
Recently, Rhea’s lawyer, Ayaz Khan, stepped in with a new plea. He explained how surrendering the passport stalled her work opportunities—she’s missed out on key projects because she couldn’t travel. Khan highlighted that Rhea has stuck to every bail rule so far, never breaking court orders. Plus, as an actress, she often needs to jet off for international shoots, auditions, and meetings.
The NCB pushed back hard, arguing that celebrities like Rhea shouldn’t get special treatment. They raised concerns about the risk of her fleeing the country.
But Justice Neela Gokhale wasn’t convinced. She pointed out that other people involved in the case had already gotten their passports back. Rhea, the judge noted, has fully cooperated throughout the trial, always returned from any trips abroad, and followed bail conditions to the letter.
Now, with her passport returned, Rhea faces some clear rules to keep things in check. She must share an active mobile number with the NCB, show up in trial court whenever required, and help move the case along quickly. Before any international travel, she’ll need to notify the NCB and send her full itinerary at least four days ahead, including flight and hotel details. She also has to give them her phone number, keep her device switched on at all times, and let them know as soon as she lands back in India.
