MEA on Indian killed in California

India Stays in Touch with US Authorities and Family After Telangana Man’s Tragic Death in California

India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has stepped in to support the family of a 30-year-old software engineer from Telangana who was shot dead by police in California earlier this month. The MEA confirmed on Friday that they’re actively coordinating with US officials and the grieving family amid an ongoing investigation.

During the weekly media briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared updates on the incident. "There’s been a shooting in California involving one of our citizens," Jaiswal said. "We’re in close contact with the family, and local authorities are investigating the matter."

Jaiswal pointed out that US police have already shared initial details, including a video and statement explaining the circumstances. He emphasized India’s commitment to helping in such tough times. "We’re reaching out to the family and will provide all possible assistance," he added.

The victim, Mohammed Nizamuddin from Mahabubnagar in Telangana, had been living in the US since 2016. He went there to study at Florida College and later worked as a software engineer. After a promotion, he moved to California and joined EPAM Systems, a firm that provided services to Google.

But Nizamuddin’s life took a dark turn. Before his death, he openly spoke about facing severe racial discrimination, harassment, and even attempts to poison his food—both at work and in his daily life. In a heartfelt LinkedIn post, he called himself a victim of "racial hatred, racial discrimination, racial harassment, torture, wage fraud, wrongful termination, and obstruction of justice."

"Enough is enough. Oppression of corporate tyrants must end," he wrote, slamming what he described as a "white supremacy/racist white American mentality." Nizamuddin accused his employer and colleagues of underpaying him, creating a hostile environment, and wrongfully firing him. Even after losing his job, he claimed a "racist detective and team" kept intimidating him, leading to his eviction.

His family in Telangana has been hit hard by the loss, and they’re hoping for justice as the investigation unfolds. The MEA’s involvement shows India’s strong support for its citizens abroad facing such challenges, especially in cases of racial discrimination in the US. Stay tuned for more updates on this heartbreaking story.
