Jude Law opens up about his exciting on-screen chemistry with Jason Bateman in the new miniseries Black Rabbit, which just debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival. The Hollywood star shared how they pushed each other to deliver top-notch performances without turning it into a competition.
In a chat with People magazine, Law compared their dynamic to a friendly sports match. "It’s like you’re playing a sport, but you’re not trying to beat the other person—you’re trying to raise their game," he explained. "You’re pushing the practice, thinking, ‘If I go this far, am I allowed to do this? Are you allowed to do that?’ It was pretty clear, pretty quickly that we were on the same page."
Even though they clicked so well, Law revealed they tackled the role in totally different ways, according to femalefirst.co.uk. While Law dove deep into character prep by writing essays and backstory details, Bateman kept it more relaxed. "He was like, ‘Yeah, yeah, you can do all of that if you want. That’s not quite how I’d do it,’" Law laughed.
Jude Law’s career as a film and TV actor has been nothing short of stellar. He’s starred in iconic movies like The Talented Mr. Ripley and Road to Perdition, skyrocketing to fame in the late ’90s and early 2000s. But with all that spotlight came some challenges, especially for his family.
Law recently reflected on this in Variety, saying he hopes TV doesn’t overshadow cinema. "I’m just a fan of going to the cinema. It would be catastrophic if one ate the other," he noted.
He also shared a heartfelt story about his mom trying to protect him from the fame frenzy back then. "I remember having a conversation with my mother, who said something that I look back on now. She said something like she had to ‘share me’ now," Law recalled. "And I think what she meant was that there was suddenly a sense of people knowing who I was and reaching out to her. She felt like there was a loss of privacy, of intimacy, that needed protecting." It’s a reminder of how Hollywood stardom can ripple into personal lives.
